Notgeld Reichsbahn Berlin 1923
This page contains Notgeld banknotes that were issued in 1923 by Deutsche Reichsbahn - the German
Railways. The company Deutsche Reichsbahn was founded in 1920 as a merger of the state railways
of various German states. A company with this name existed through
Weimar Republic and WW2 and East Germany
until 1990.
Notgeld issued by the Reichsbahn had a substantial circulation. Unlike other Notgeld issues, which were
valid only regionally in most cases, the bills of the Reichsbahn were valid in large areas of Germany or even
in the whole country. Bills were issued centrally by the Reichsverkehrsministerium (ministry of transport)
in Berlin or by the regional Reichsbahndirektion (branches of the Reichsbahn). This page will focus on
those bills issued by the Reichsverkehrsministerium Berlin.
