German occupation WW2: Slovenia
The part of Yugoslavia, which makes up about todays Slovenia was during WW2 occupied by Italian
and later German troops. In 1944 the head of the regional administration - the province Laibach -
asked the Sparkasse (savings bank) to issue banknotes denominated in Lire. The text on these bills
was in German and Slovenian language - one of each side. The pictures showed portaits of people
in local clothing styles and were displayed on each side of the note.
