Banknotes from Guernsey
The Channel Islands are a group of islands off the coast of Normandy, France, in the English Channel.
They comprise two separate bailiwicks: Guernsey and Jersey. The Channel Islands were the only British
soil occupied by German troops in World War II.
Deemed indefensible by Churchill the Channel Islands were occupied by Germany in July 1940 after
her victory in France. The Germans took a strong grip on the islands economic, social and cultural live.
Only in May 1945 the British took over the islands again.
