Belgium was occupied by Germany right at the start of WW1 in 1914. The Belgian government flew to
England and took with them the printing blocks for the paper money of the Belgian central bank. So the
German occupiers had to issue their own money. The Société Générale de Belgique took over the
money supply. It issued Francs from 24 December 1914 until 11 November 1918. The bills denominated
in 1, 2, 5, 20, 100 1000 Francs show either a portrait of the Queen Marie-Louise or the Flemish
painter Peter Paul Rubens. They were dated with the exact date of printing.
