Allied Military Authority 1944
Towards the end of World War 2 the monetary situation in Austria was as desparate as the whole economy. The German Reichsmark was discredited and the Reichsbank was not operational anymore. The allied forces had started to give out a currency - the "Alliierten Militärschilling" - for their internal use in 1944.
Although only the small denominations of 50 Groschen and 1 & 2 Schillings were allowed for use by civilians, the money started to circulate increasingly in the civilian economy in Austria. The law over the monetary reform from 30 November 1945 prescribed the end of the Alliierten Militärschillings, which were exchanged into the new Austrian Schillings.
The following bills were issued from 1944 till 29 May 1945 in Austria. Bills were either printed in the US or in the UK.
