Date: 1 October 1993 Measures: 13 cm * 6.5 cm Signatures: Tietmeyer, Gaddum Find out more about the historic background of the period in which this banknote was issued. The front side shows a portrait of Carl Friedrich Gauss (1777-1855). He was a German mathematician, astronomer and physicist with a very wide range of contributions. The water mark repeats the portrait from the frontside of the note. Back side of the note:
Shows a nautical instrument - a sextant. The instrument was used to determine the position of a ship based on
the position of celestial bodies, such as the moon or the sun.
