Date: 1 August 1991 Measures: 18 cm * 8 cm Signatures: Schlesinger, Tietmeyer Find out more about the historic background of the period in which this banknote was issued. The front side shows a portrait of Carl Friedrich Gauss (1777-1855). He was a German mathematician, astronomer and physicist with a very wide range of contributions. The water mark repeats the portrait from the frontside of the note. Back side of the note:
Shows a sailing vessel of the same type as the traditional training ship of the German navy: "Gorch Fock".
